“Mechanical and Civil Engineering are booming now.”
“The Design industry is paying starting salaries equal to IT people.”
“There is a real need to concentrate in modernizing the computer labs for these departments also.”
“Buying computer systems is not a big deal. If we invest for 50 machines jointly for Civil and Mechanical labs, it would cost us just 9 lacs, which would suffice for 5 years.”
“But buying the software like AutoCAD, Pro/E, CATIA, ANSYS (FEA), STAAD.Pro will cost crores of rupees.”
“So, we can afford to invest for single user or five user software… that too we have to really do lot of ground work to convince the management.”
"So, how can we give a lab for all Civil & Mechanical Students to all the students in the class?”
“We buy a few users and then train some young and dynamic staff in these software and what is the guarantee that he will stick to the job for long. So, the very purpose of buying few seats of software is not serving the purpose, as we do not have any competent staff to train students.”
“We have evaluation software and we get some private trainers to train our students and they charge huge amounts and the inputs are very less. All the students are not able to get the benefit.”
We do not want to invest on systems also, we want to utilize general computer lab only for Civil and Mechanical students. i.e. We wish to fully utilize our Labs in the best way.
